Peer 2 Peer: reinforcing peers’ involvement in outreach work

José Queiroz, Diana Castro, Marta Pinto, Vânia Mendes, Mariana Homem, Ximene Rego

Peer2Peer aims to reinforce the capacity of outreach CSOs to reduce drug demand, by recovering and upscaling the European heritage on cooperation between peers and professionals, outreach workers, small-scale drug dealers and law enforcement. In order to accomplish these goals, 6 European countries (Pt, Be, Nl, Pl, Gr, Lt) conduct a qualitative research regarding formal and informal cooperation between key-actors in outreach interventions addressing PUPS (WP2). These activities provide further guidance on recommendations of best practices and transferable methods for the implementation of training programs for the integration of Peer Educators (PE) in outreach teams and the implementation of locally adapted pilot interventions in Pl, Gr, Lt. An Advocacy Strategy will be developed in order to strengthen cooperation practices between-key actors in outreach work and to integrate peers in outreach teams in the National and European political agendas and to stimulate the implementation of evidence-based strategies at the National and European levels. Communication and dissemination activities will maximise the project’s impact by raising awareness on the need to develop more effective approaches towards PUPS, through the project website, 2 Social media pages, 1 e-book and 1 advocacy video. In the end of the project it is expected to have improved scientific knowledge, social innovation and expertise practices, as well as more empowered individuals addressing policy issues. Hence useful synergies will be generated and practices tailored to the final beneficiary’s needs will be improved – aiming to be part of the political agenda and integrated in community interventions.
