Gediminas’ Tower of the Upper Castle
The Vilnius Castle Museum was opened in 1960. An observation deck on the top of the tower is the best place from which to appreciate a magnificent panorama of Vilnius.
Cathedral Basilica
The Cathedral of St. Stanislav and St. Vladislav is the most important place of worship for the country‘s Catholics and the venue for the main Christian, folk and national festivities.
Gates of Dawn
The painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, in the Chapel of the Gates of Dawn is known all over the world.
Church of St. Anne
The church of St. Anne is a masterpiece of the late Gothic period. St. Anne’s Church, which has survived to the present day without changing for over 500 years, has become a symbol of Vilnius.
Vilnius University
Vilnius University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe.The complexes of Vilnius University were formed over several centuries and, as a result, consist of the buildings built in Gothic, Baroque and Classical styles.
Užupis
Užupis is a “republic” of artists. It has its own anthem, constitution, president, bishop, two churches, one of the oldest graveyards in Vilnius , seven bridges, and a guardian – the bronze angel of Užupis.
Vilnius Picture Gallery
The Gallery is established in a beautiful and spacious estate of the noblemen Chodkiewicz noted for impressive interiors of late Classicism.
The Bastion of Vilnius City Wall
The bastion is a Renaissance defence complex of authentic construction situated next to the former city wall and dating back to the 17th century.
Three Crosses
It is believed that the three crosses were first erected here in the 17th century to commemorate a group of monks from a nearby monastery, who were martyred in the 14th century.
Television Tower
The Television Tower is one of the tallest buildings in Eastern Europe. It is 326,5 metres high.
Church of St. Catherine
The acoustics are excellent, and the venue is used for cultural events, as well as for rehearsals and concerts of the Šv. Kristoforo kamerinis orkestras, the choir “Jauna muzika” , the boys’ and young people’s choir “Ąžuoliukas” and other artistic collectives and performers.
Church of St Peter and St Paul
St Peter and Paul’s Church is a masterpiece of the 17th-century. Baroque famous for its exceptional interior where one can see about 2,000 stucco figures.
Stiklių-Žydų-Gaono Streets
These streets were included in the medieval Jewish quarter, which was west of Didžioji Street, and reached as far as Dominikonų and Vokiečių Streets.
Vilnius Town Hall
The Town Hall building was Gothic to begin with and changed with time. The Town Hall was reconstructed for the last time by the architect Laurynas Stuoka-Gucevičius at the end of the 18th century.Today Vilnius Town Hall is a representative building.
Presidential Palace
The Presidential Palace, called “Prezidentūra” (President’s Office) in everyday life, was built in the square of Simonas Daukantas. Russian Tsar Alexander I, French King Louis XVIII, Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, and Polish Marshall and statesman Jozef Pilsudski visited the palace.
Pilies Street
Pilies Street is the oldest and most flamboyant street in the Old Town of Vilnius. Kings, legates of the Pope, and envoys from other countries passed this street on their way to the castle.
National Museum of Lithuania
The National Museum of Lithuania is the largest depository of Lithuanian historical cultural heritage in the country. It is the oldest museum in Lithuania
Museum of Genocide Victims (KGB)
The Museum is set up in the former KGB headquarters where soviet crimes were planned and committed in the course of fifty years.
Gediminas Avenue
Vilnius started developing faster in the middle of the 19th century, when the rail line St. Petersburg – Vilnius was built. A new central street of the city, Georgij Avenue was built.
